What are Anti Wrinkle Injections?
Anti wrinkle injections are made from a purified protein – Botulinum toxin A and are used to reduce facial wrinkles. Anti wrinkle injections temporarily block signals from the nerves to the muscles. The injected muscle can no longer contract , which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften, giving a refreshed appearance.
Anti wrinkle injections are most often used on forehead lines, crows feet and frown lines. The effect usually lasts 3-4 months.
Commonly Treated Areas
There are 3 main sites for anti wrinkle injection:
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines)
- Crow’s Feet
Less Commonly Treated Areas
- Gummy smile
- Bunny lines
- Brow lift
- Pebbled bumpy chin
- Downturned smile
- Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
Your Appointment
- Appointments are usually 30 minutes.
- A medical history will be taken.
- Your expected outcomes will be discussed.
- Treatment takes 20 minutes. There is no down time and you can resume normal activities right away.
- Photography for before and after purposes may be taken . These will remain confidential unless otherwise requested.
Who should not have Anti Wrinkle Injections?
Anti wrinkle injections are considered safe for most who are in good general health.
They should not be given to:
- Pregnant or breast feeding women
- People with known sensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation
- People with neuromuscular diseases ( MS or myasthenia gavis)
- Infection at proposed injection site
- Facial muscle weakness
- Ptosis ( drooping eyelids)
Possible Complications
Anti wrinkle injection side effects are temporary and usually limited to the injection area. They can include:
- Drooping of the eyelids (rare)
- Headache
- Skin tightness
- Bruising
- Redness
- Swelling at the injection site
Post Care for Anti Wrinkles
- You will see an improvement in the treated area 3-7 days post treatment.
- The treated area may feel tight in particular, the forehead.
- Keep your face in an upright position for 4 hours post treatment.
- Avoid strenuous exercise ,saunas, hot baths and alcohol 24 hours post treatment.
- Avoid facial massage and skin treatments.
- It is normal to experience bruising at the injection site. This can be covered with makeup if required.
